Having retreated from the overwhelming force they ran into, Major Reno and the survivors of his command were besieged for 2 days by the victorious Indians. On June 27, 1876, the large Indian encampment broke camp and moved off south down the valley. Soon Reno and his men noticed a dust cloud to the north. This turned out to be the combined forces of General Terry and Colonel Gibbon; relief had arrived. |
