We look forward to introducing the works by Viola Artemani to Kirkland and our collectors near and far.. Her figurative and expressive art that will definitely add richness and diversity to the gallery's offerings.

Artemani's focus on human experiences, memory, and identity, along with her symbolic use of space, should create a powerful atmosphere for collectors. Her combination of reality and abstraction, mixed with different techniques and media, aligns beautifully with the theme of artistic discovery.

Viola Artemani was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. In 2000 she with her family moved to Montreal, Canada and currently divides her time between Seattle and Montreal.

"Painting and drawing for me is the way of thinking and observing the world around me. My inspiration relates from my own life, feelings, emotions, experiences, or sometimes my observations of lives of other people. My paintings are about transposing the material into immaterial by creating a new identity and vice versa. I am fascinated by space and memory, either physical or imaginary, and by their virtual existence"

Artemani paints portraits of women, compositions, interior scenes and still life's. In her portraits, there is a subtle reference to the artist life and experiences. Her compositions are structured, often with geometric background and always engaging. Viola's art projects an atmosphere of mystery and tranquility.

When you examine carefully the details in her work, you realize that the artist employs a very skillful symbolism to project human separation.

She plans her subject before starting to work on the canvas, developing a general outline of what the finished painting will be.

Once her ideas have come together, the paint brush flies across the canvas transcribing what the artist has mentally created.

"I like to mix different styles and techniques. Try to show the space and mood between reality and abstraction. It's like an exciting game when you can never predict the outcome. What happens is completely unknown at first and therefore fascinating and interesting. All my paintings are made using high quality materials and to the highest standards. I use professional acrylic and oil-based paint on canvas."

Artemani prefers to work with acrylic, oil, oil pastel, India ink and pencil where she places importance on composition, working thoroughly to elicit a sense of familiarity in her subject matter influenced by her culture, life and experiences.

"My creative process is fueled by the subconscious. My brain creates, while my hand acts as a conduit, allowing the manifestation of that which exists beyond her conscious self."
